Aerial Shoots - What to Know

Chris Troiano is a budding aerial performer himself and offers private aerial arts photoshoots, leveraging his growing background of the craft to provide enriched, dynamic, and high-quality photographs. This page serves as a guide to understanding the process Chris has developed through his experience doing photoshoots of this nature.

The Photoshoot Process

Before the photoshoot, Chris requests a list of clients, apparatuses, and poses to minimize the number of changes involving apparatuses and lights. Chris will supply a matte backdrop if necessary.

Chris does dynamic photography - depending on the apparatus and pose, Chris will change the angle of the photo for dramatic effect. Chris will also change the accent lighting to complement the client’s attire or apparatus color. Because of this, Chris will constantly move lights around the space to ensure proper exposure.

It is important that the clients are fully conditioned and warmed up prior to the shoot. As poses will be held for longer, and without the assistance of momentum, parts of the body that may be gripped, rubbed, cinched, or pressed against are done repeatedly and for longer durations. Proper conditioning is crucial to minimize discomfort in a private shoot.

Chris does not charge by the hour - his mantra is “as long as it takes to get the shots.” Chris’ goal in these shoots is to get a minimum of six unique poses per half hour of time.

The Editing Process

Within 24 hours after a photoshoot, all of the clients will receive half-size, watermarked proofs from the shoot. It is the client’s responsibility to pick out which photos from the shoot they want edited.

Chris does not use AI or pre-purchased filters for photo edits. Color corrections are performed manually to match the vision during the shoot. Each client has their own color profile, and their color profile may alter on what they are wearing or what color their apparatus is.

After color corrections, Chris focuses on blemish removal, including acne, bruises, and other marks. Chris does not do unnatural airbrushing to his photos, and prefers to keep scars or birthmarks to preserve the client’s uniqueness, but these can also be removed per client request.

Once blemishes are removed, Chris then removes any creases, folds, or stitch lines in the background to ensure the background is smooth.

Finally, Chris positions and crops the photo to the best standard printable ratio. He will also provide a second crop for Instagram at 4:5 ratio if the photo fits in this frame.

Clients have up to six months from the shoot to pick photos for editing. After six months, Chris reserves the right to purge any photos not selected by the client.

FAQs

What if I want additional edits?

Additional edits are $10 each.

Another photographer offered all photos with edits - why do you not offer that?

Editing is subjective. Adding a filter to a photo is considered editing. Running the photos through AI is considered editing. Chris promotes quality over quantity, and provides transparency on what his edits entails. Each photo is given full attention and detail. In the world of social media, only one photo is needed to make a truly exceptional post.
